My New Year’s Resolution

1.2.2013 • 1 Comment

Happy New Year Everyone!!

2013 has officially started and not how I expected. I’m sitting in the doctors office after suffering for the last 6 days with the worst cold I’ve had in years.

It has reminded me that circumstances will come that may change your plans. I had the highest hopes of dreaming about the year and setting goals all week. That didn’t happen and I was way to devastated by that fact. I’m realizing all those goals I thought I’d make, well some of them don’t really matter in the grand scheme of things. We can’t do it all. We have to choose what is most important to us.

In light of that, I decided to make sure my normal list of goals was a little more focused on my life’s mission but a little less specific, leaving plenty of room for God to work.

My new year’s resolution for 2013 is to connect. I’ve mentioned before, I can be an introvert, which means I find myself perfectly happy choosing my to-do list or reading over calling a friend. But I’ve realized that no matter how many goals I meet, people are what’s most important and I want to spend my year investing in that. How cliche is this? Really. But somehow, it hit me in a new way.

I want to connect with the Lord on a more meaningful level.

I want to connect with my husband, showing him all the love and respect he needs.

I want to connect with friends and be more vulnerable and reliable.

I want to connect with the VMP audience on a real individual level.

I am excited for the possibilities y’all!

What is your word for the new year? Leave a comment with your word for the year. I’d love to hear!!

Now don’t be fooled. I still love setting goals. They will hang somewhere in my office to encourage me to do my best daily. BUT they won’t be my number one focus. And if the reason, I didn’t meet them was because I was impacting other people’s lives? How great is that!

Also, I want to share my friend Stefanie’s blog post about finding joy. She is a wise wise lady that I have so much respect for and pretty darn talented too! ; )

About the photo: I chose this photo which seems so isolated because it makes me think of a quiet retreat that warms your soul. It’s not a crowded room with tons of people. It’s authentic. Real conversations are bound to happen here because there are so few distractions.
