Today, I am sharing a new series called The Roundtable. My sister dubbed our monthly lunches with a group of wedding industry ladies, The Roundtable. It’s a place to inspire and be inspired and talk about the industry.
I’m so inspired by other women entrepreneurs that I thought it would be fun for this to be our virtual roundtable and place to find out more about owning your own business from some ladies I truly respect and find so encouraging! I thought I’d kick us off by answering the questions I’ll ask all the ladies myself!
HOW DID YOU GET YOUR START?
As a wedding planner, I remember going with brides to pick out invitations. It was one aspect where the price always seem to shock them! Since I had a degree in journalism, I knew how to design newspapers. I figured I could create invitations for my clients for less! It snowballed and here I am now!
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO YOUR YOUNGER SELF THE DAY YOU STARTED YOUR BUSINESS?
Keep your head down and work hard. Enjoy every milestone and every step of the journey. …. Sometimes you are going to want to research something to death and what you really need to do is just take action on it.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT BEING AN ENTREPRENEUR?
A flexible schedule. There have been different seasons of my life. I used to sleep til 7:30 and normally stay in bed, reading and journaling for an hour. Now I wake up at 6 and start my workday at 7:30 and have time to hit the gym around 4. Those morning hours before emails start rolling in is the most productive time of my day. Working in sweats from home is also nice!
LEAST FAVORITE THING?
Boundaries – It’s so hard to draw the line when your desk is four feet away from the living room. It is constantly a work in progress!
WHAT ARE YOUR THREE FAVORITE PHONE APPS?
1. Instagram – I just love seeing what is inspiring others.
2. One Thousand Gifts – Writing down things that I am grateful for in my day completely alters my mindset for the better!
3. Kindle – I’m the nerd in the gym who is too busy reading to actually do crunches.
WHAT DOES YOUR DESK LOOK LIKE ON A NORMAL DAY?
My desk is long and has two wings that come out on the ends so it leaves me tons of empty space on my desk. Always handy are my favorite pen (PaperMate flair), wooden ruler, sharpee, yellow legal pad and my VMP to-do notepad. On the wall in front of me is my color swatches. It always makes me smile!
