As a business owner, it can feel like I have 10 priorities or 10 things that have to get done this very minute. As a business owner who uses social media and sees what every other business is doing, you can go ahead and multiply that by a billion.

About a month ago, feeling the weight of a really busy season, I felt like I needed to reframe my thoughts about VMP. I wanted to readjust by covering my entire business in prayer in a fresh way. I kept saying “I feel like I need to do a Prayer Audit.” I have no idea why that term came to mind but it felt very fitting, then I googled what “audit” actually meant.

“an official inspection of an individual’s or organization’s accounts, typically by an independent body.”

Though it’s God’s business, the “independent body” is God, because when I get in the weeds of the everyday work of VMP, I forget to include Him. The power of a prayer audit is that the search and answers aren’t coming from the human business owner, but God instead.

As I thought about doing this, 13 questions flowed out of me so quickly!

And can I just tell y’all, God revealed so much to me! I made two very big redirections that will have a huge impact on my year ahead and y’all as well. I’m planning to do this each quarter if not more often.

The key for me, and what made this a prayer audit and not just a personal audit, was that I didn’t answer them all at once but took one question a day. I would read the question that I was to answer the next day on the day before and pray about it. When I sat down to answer it the following day, again, the words spilled out of me. Things I didn’t even realize were there, which I can only attribute to being promptings from the Lord.

I created this as an entrepreneur but really, as I look over these questions, they’d be fitting for every person living with a mission.

Here’s a sample of the questions!

  • ARE THERE AREAS THAT I’VE MADE MY MASTER? OR GIVEN TOO MUCH POWER?
  • ARE THERE ANY AREAS THAT HAVE BEEN A SOURCE OF PRIDE?
  • ARE THERE AREAS THAT I’M RELYING ON MY OWN STRENGTH TO ACCOMPLISH?
