Kara, Social Manager, here! Just over three months ago, my sweet Avery girl made her way into the world. Leading up to her birth, I was trying to decide how to best capture the memories of her young life. I know myself and well, I’m just not that sentimental. I will say that since becoming a momma, some of that has changed. But at my core, I’m pretty much as practical as it gets. I do have a box where I’ve put a few mementos from these first few months and I am taking monthly photos (so you don’t have to feel too bad for Avery!), but I just knew I wouldn’t keep up with a baby book!

Enter, our Kid’s Legacy Journal–a place to record prayers and their answers for your kids with the intent of one day giving it to them on their graduation, wedding day, or the day when they become a parent.

Y’all, as amazing as that sounds, because of my pre-existing anxiety surrounding baby books, I really wasn’t convinced this was for me either. 200+ pages of writing space! Eek. How am I gonna fill that up?

Then, I got it. When I became a mother, and I held that little person in my hands, I realized the gravity of what I had been charged with. I had SO many plans to get myself together before she was born that just didn’t quite work out. 😉 So, I knew I couldn’t depend on myself to be everything that she needed. I am not enough. I needed the Lord and I needed to commit myself to praying for her.

I know I’m a brand new momma, but I hope you’ll still hear me out today. You can sign your kids up for all the extracurricular activities, take them on family vacations, create an inviting home, even make sure they’re at church every time the door is open. But if you’re not bringing them before the Lord in prayer, you’re forsaking your most crucial role in their life.

Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain. -Psalm 127:1

I hate to say it so bluntly because I don’t want you to feel guilty. But instead of taking it back, I’ll leave you with this: it’s never too late. Maybe you are a new momma that’s ready to grab this journal and get going. But even if your kids are older (adults, even!), it’s never too late to start covering them in prayer. The Lord is so faithful to meet us right where we’re at. You definitely don’t need the Kid’s Legacy Journal in order to pray over your kids, but it is a very practical (yay!) tool to make it happen.

Here’s what it includes:

  • A page of prompts to get you started (things like salvation, calling, body image, friendships, etc.)
  • 200+ pages of lined space separated into two sections, the top section is for writing out the prayer and the bottom section is for writing out the answer or how you see God working in that area over time

Maybe you don’t have BBA (baby book anxiety) like me, but even if you do, I want you to know this isn’t just a cutesy gift item, this is a mountain-moving tool and a faith-building legacy for your children.

Here are some really cool ideas for using our Kid’s Legacy Journal on a scale to “journal dabbler” to “writing lover”. 😉

  • Share the fun! No one said you have to fill this up yourself. Ask dad and grandparents to take turns writing in it.
  • Have a shower coming up? Have the guests or special people in the family’s life write in it and give it as a gift.
  • Our friend Michelle Myers not only grabbed these for her children but her children’s future spouses too!!

Have you used our Kid’s Legacy Journal? We’d love to hear your stories!
