I have been thinking a lot about accountability lately when it comes to my prayer journal. If you are like me, you can go days, even weeks without picking it up. Sometimes I feel like I should have this whole prayer thing down a bit more as this unplanned “prayer advocate” since designing the journals.
My biggest fear is not that we won’t sell any journals, but the ones we sell will sit on shelves and not be used. Instead of fearing that, I thought I’d do something about it.
For the month of October, I am hosting a challenge to everyone who owns a prayer journal and everyone who doesn’t. That’s EVERYONE! 🙂 These little bound piles of paper are small but mighty if we use them. So how do we combat crazy schedules and dumb distractions?? I’ve been thinking a lot about this and thinking accountability partners are an amazing way to do this. Accountability is an incredible resource and something that I have not utilized enough of my life.
If you already have a group of friends that are using the prayer journals, here are a few tips for starting an accountability group:
1. Contact everyone and talk to each other about your goals for accountability. Some people may have it a goal to pray through every section, every day, some may have a goal to pray through every section over a week. Write it down so you know how to encourage each other.
2. Talk about how often you’d like to check in with each other and what this will look like? Is it text messages, coffee dates a phone call?
3. Pray together about the challenge. Even the topic of prayer deserves some prayer. Days will get busy and distractions will come. Pray for discipline amidst crazy days.
If you do not have a group, initiate the conversation with friends. It doesn’t have to be with our prayer journals, but it can be. Maybe it’s your small group that you already meet with weekly. See if they’d be interested in walking through the journals together. Order the journals here all together. This is the prime reason for our coupon codes! Save on each journal and shipping. 🙂
If you do not have a group and are a little shy to start one, I have created a group on Facebook (join here!!) that I’ll be updating throughout the month. I’d love to have it a place where we can share encouragement and answered prayers.
I’m so excited y’all! One thing that has been on my heart the last few weeks is friendship. I am the type of person who gets busy and stops answering texts and calls because I feel like I need to do WORK but it’s just not life giving. Friendships refresh us and keep us going. I hope this challenge will help not just your prayer life but you friendships grow!!
