  • Vana was sick earlier this week with a bug and we found an odd routine. She’d start to feel the nausea and want me to put her down. She’d laid on the cold floor moaning for a few minutes then I’d tell her she could come sit with me. She’d hop in my lap and find this same little spot to nuzzle and fall fast asleep. I didn’t take away the pain (I could tell by her furrowed brows even asleep) but in my arms she was comforted enough to actually be able to fall asleep. Guess what? Snuggling up to God solves a lot of our problems too. Anxiety? Restlessness? Insecurity? Depression? Hopelessness? Indecisiveness? Sometimes, it doesn’t even take us voicing our problem but God’s presence alone can change everything. You might think that’s not true. You might think that’s a little prosperity gospel-ish but I firmly believe that any trial we are facing looks vastly different in our Father’s arms. Sure not all the pain goes away but in my experience, some of the toughest hardships I faced, I clung so tight to Jesus that they weren’t anything like I expected. And really, if you are gonna experience pain, you might as well be in the arms of the God who is Lord over it all. ACTION STEP: Hop off insty and cozy up to Jesus this morning (that’s fancy for dive into His Word and pray). He somehow loves us more than I love my babies so I can bet He’s ready to hold you and comfort you like you’ve never known. #valdoesmotherhood
  • Raise your hand 🙋🏻 if you have a looming deadline approaching? I can seriously stress myself as deadlines creep closer and closer. The Lord challenged me the other day though with this thought. • How many deadlines do I get overwhelmed with that I placed on myself? • How many are God-given deadline and how many are Val-given? • Is God asking me to break my back to accomplish something? • Am I unnecessarily stressed because I assume I have to do something that God never asked me to do? Matthew 11:28-30 reminds me "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” If the burden is too heavy, maybe it's because I'm piling in things God never intended me to carry. You might have a million deadlines coming and few that are negotiable, but here's you ACTION STEP today: Grab your calendar and pray over the deadlines you have. Ask Him to open and close doors if those deadlines need to change. And if God reveals anything to you, please leave a comment and share!!   • I had to capture this moment. It's ordinary and what you'd see if you walked in my house many days. Me grabbing dirty clothes to toss in the laundry room. This is life. There will always be dirty clothes to clean but since I've been using the House Prayers, the word that keeps coming to mind is "redeemed." I am redeeming that time of cleaning and making an eternal impact. I've been fighting the narrative that a messy home means a meaningful home. I like a tidy house. I have felt guilty for cleaning for so long but I don't anymore. And if you like a tidy house you shouldn't either. We can clean toy covered floors and cover our kids in prayer all at the same time and that is a beautiful thing. Annnnd if you have no idea what I'm talking about, check out the link in my profile called House Prayers. It's a free worksheet with different prompts to pray through each room of your house. The feedback has been incredible and I'm so glad that a small free resource has been life-changing for so many of you!!   • Are you bored in prayer? Do you fall asleep often or drift easily? We tend to pray in the wee hours of the morning or late at night when sleep can get the best of us. Today I wanted to share about 5 postures of prayer to shake us out of the rut we can fall into when we pray. This is by no means an exhaustive list, but ones I identified with personally. Each position tends to emphasize a different heart. As you find yourself in different mindsets, let your body language follow. Or if you want to have a certain mindset, start with a position and let that influence your thoughts. This is not woo-woo stuff. Our bodies and souls are connected. They do not operate independently from one another. From Proverbs 4:23 we are instructed to “guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Our heart affects our actions and our actions affect our heart.   • How to pray beyond a list of requests. From today's post: "I don’t know about you but my prayers could be punctuated with a lot more question marks? It’s normally filled with lots of periods and even exclamation marks but few question marks. Even as we sell a product that was originally designed to organize our requests to the Lord, my heart has been to make sure that is not where we end things. First we added a gratitude journal. The following year we added a conversation journal including the ACTS prayer technique to emphasize confession. And last year we added an Adoration’s section to help us meditate on who God is.   • Today's post in our prayer series!! "As believers, we are constantly telling each other we will be praying for them. It can feel like a 'get out of jail free' card when someone gives devastating news and we just don’t know what to say, but the truth is, praying for others is the greatest way we can show them love. It is not a 'this is the best thing I can do...given the circumstances' type of thing. It is a 'this is the very best thing I can do...because of the God I serve' type of thing. Intercessory prayer, this idea of coming to God on behalf of someone we love, has grabbed my attention this year. I’ve mentioned before, the visual I get of a prayer warrior or someone who prays for others, is always an older lady with a notebook of scribbles who will go silent in your presence muttering the sweetest prayers under her breath. She basically has a direct line to God and I never envisioned myself as a prayer warrior myself. If you’ve felt intimidated by the idea of intercessory prayer or are tired of telling people you will pray for them without actually praying, this post is for you."
